About the Hike
Pirin Peak is the northernmost two-thousander in the Pirin Mountains. It is also the first summit of Pirin that comes into view when travelling from Sofia towards Bansko. Despite its excellent location and impressive views, the routes leading to the summit remain relatively quiet, and even on summer weekends we may not encounter many other hikers.
The hike starts near the Kulinoto Ski Area, close to Predel Pass. The first five kilometres follow a pleasant forest road with a gradual ascent of around 350 metres. As we continue higher, the trail becomes steeper, while the forest gradually gives way to shrubs, dwarf pine and eventually the impressive rocky slopes beneath the summit.
Although the final ascent is steep, the terrain is not technically difficult. From the summit, hikers are rewarded with magnificent views of the finest peaks of Pirin, including the entire Marble Ridge. To the north lies the southern part of the Rila Mountains, while further in the distance we can often identify famous summits such as Malyovitsa, Musala, and many more. On clear days, the panorama extends far beyond Bulgaria, reaching mountain ranges in Greece, North Macedonia and Serbia.
After spending time on the summit for rest, photographs and enjoying the views, we return along the same route.
