About the Hike
The hike to Bezbog and Polezhan is a very special one for me. The area around Bezbog Hut is where I first discovered Pirin as a child, and these two summits were among the first I ever climbed. Every time I return, I enjoy sharing this beautiful route with others.
The hike is suitable for beginners with good physical fitness. With around 650 meters of elevation gain, it offers a rewarding day among some of the most spectacular landscapes in Pirin.
We begin at Bezbog Hut, which we reach by chairlift. From there, we follow the trail past the beautiful Bezbog Lake and continue to our first summit of the day, Bezbog Peak. After a well-earned break, we descend to the saddle between the two peaks before making our way towards the impressive Polezhan.
At 2851 meters, Polezhan is the fourth-highest peak in Pirin and the highest granite peak in the mountain range. The summit offers magnificent views across Pirin’s rugged ridges, countless glacial lakes, and many of Bulgaria’s most beautiful peaks. We will also admire Upper Gazey Lake, known locally as the “Lady with a Bun” because of its distinctive shape.
After plenty of time for photographs, relaxation, and enjoying the scenery, we return to Bezbog Hut via an alternative route and catch the lift back down.
