About the Hike

In his book Principality of Bulgaria, Konstantin Jireček wrote:

“Nowhere else is there such a magnificent dark-green wreath rising above Panagyurishte. There is no other mountain with such rounded shapes, such gently curved lines and such charming flower-filled meadows. The true Sredna Gora is easily accessible, gentle, peaceful, calm and welcoming. From Bratia Peak one enjoys such a vast and magnificent view that no other like it exists in Europe.”

Indeed, Bratia Peak is a remarkable summit. From its highest point, we can simultaneously admire the Pirin, Rila, Balkan Mountains, Rhodopes, Vitosha and many other Bulgarian mountain ranges. At the most panoramic viewpoint, a bench has been installed, offering the perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenery.

We will reach this charming summit from the holiday settlement of Panagyurski Kolonii. The route passes through beautiful deciduous forests and is suitable even for beginner hikers. Keep in mind that the second half of the ascent is somewhat steeper, but there is nothing technically difficult about the route, as it follows a wide forest trail.

On the return journey, we follow a different forest road that leads us to a beautiful south-facing meadow. Local residents have installed a swing there and named the place Sunny Meadow.
