About the Hike

Izdremets Peak (1493 m) is the second-highest summit of Golema Planina, one of the ridges of Western Stara Planina. It offers beautiful views towards both nearby and distant peaks of Stara Planina, as well as Vitosha and Rila. Particularly impressive are the views of the dramatic Kobiliini Steni ridge.

Our hike follows part of the international E3 route, known in Bulgaria as the famous Kom–Emine Trail. Trastenaya Hut is one of the favorite stops along the route, renowned for the hospitality of its hosts, delicious food, and above all, the homemade raspberry wine produced there.

Our journey to Lakatnik takes us through the picturesque Iskar Gorge, where we will also enjoy views of the impressive Lakatnik Cliffs.

Although the route from the village may appear quite long on paper, it is a very pleasant walk. The beautiful forests along the way make every kilometer enjoyable. Gradually, we approach Trastenaya Hut and pass the Chemernik Farm before tackling the final ascent to the summit.

After spending time enjoying the views, we will return at a relaxed pace to Trastenaya Hut and its famous raspberry plantations. Here we will stop for lunch and, of course, a glass of raspberry wine before beginning our return to Lakatnik.

The hike is suitable throughout the year, but is especially beautiful in autumn when the forests are dressed in vibrant seasonal colors.
